I Will Teach You To Be Rich

We live in this paradoxical society.

We spend our whole lives trying to gather as much money as possible…but then most of us do nothing with it. We are taught to save our money but not how to spend it.

There are plenty of people that are living under their means solely because they think that’s what they’re “supposed to do.” Money isn’t just for saving.

I want everyone to have a vision for spending on the things you love. Once you do, then you can cut costs mercilessly on the things you don’t. That’s the whole process.

Most of us have never articulated what we love spending on, and we’ve never allowed ourselves to imagine the possibility that we might be able to spend even more on it. Instead, we are taught that saving money is the ultimate virtue.

But that’s not the point of money. Of course you should save and invest and pay off your debt. But you should also use your money to live a rich life today, without any guilt.

Most of us approach money from a defensive position. But there’s a better approach.

Play offense with your money by tracking these 4 numbers:
1. Fixed costs
2. Savings
3. Investments
4. Guilt-Free Spending

Knowing your numbers will allow you to build some flexibility in your life and spending. You can’t predict everything. That’s life. But if you track these 4 numbers, when things do come up unexpectedly, you won’t be completely thrown off financially.

Start tracking your 4 key numbers and start taking control of your finances. Use my free Conscious Spending Plan: iwt.com/csp-ct

Someone living well below their means and being responsible definitely gets extra points from me.

i feel like people are being intentionally obtuse lol… if it’s all you can afford, then that’s not you living a smaller life than you have to, that’s you living the life you have to live. obviously this only applies to people who have money. i say this someone who currently makes no income bc i’m a student, but before that made minimum wage working 50 hour weeks in retail and living with my mom. i had like $5 a week to spend guilt free and those vending machine honey buns were worth it god damn it. but if people who aren’t broke like you and me have money what’s wrong with them spending it??? i find that way less offensive than when they complain about how “poor” they are making $100k+ a year. people need to be honest with themselves about how much money they make and what they can actually afford with that money. it’s pretty easy for those of us with no money to know what we can or can’t afford, but there’s nothing wrong with resources existing to help people who do have money learn how to be realistic too

Living under my means allowed me to leave a stressful 60 hour per week job for a more enjoyable 35 hour per week job. I also spend more money now because the wealth I’ve built allows me to, but working less has been more beneficial to my happiness, relationships, and health.

Pretty sure the planet scores points if we all buy less stuff, doesn't it?

“Smaller life” seems like a very subjective term on a person to person basis. I guess not living paycheck to paycheck and being able to invest comfortably at the same time is freeing. So if living “smaller” helps with that freedom, then I’m all about that.

What if it means I can help the people I love enjoy their lives more? Respectfully, going to have to disagree with you on this one sir.

“Living a smaller life than you can” isn’t the same thing as not living at or below your means, people. 🙄

I saw a post on insta when the parents were lying to their kids about their life. "We go to normal hotels" is what they said. They make over 200k a year and thought lying to their kids would make them humble lol

Guilt free spending doesn't exist unless you're rich this finance crap is so annoying. Try being "average" and having empathy. Guilt free spending? More like postponing retirement and possibly never able to retire or achieve any real wealth I mean wow this life is great! I'm personally working 50+ hours a week for months and months but none of that even matters cause we gotta pay money just to drive a car sleep in a bed and drink water! Awesome! I'm so happy I'm working and unable to afford freedom because I have to purchase my own survival. Life is great! It's definitely "my fault" I should just sell my soul to the system!
