A testament to how important I think AI is for production coding:

For every AI Production Coding video I make, even with Rust, I currently lose about 7 to 10 subscribers on the first day.

But it's not about subscribers. It's about sharing the expertise I believe makes a difference for #ProductionCoding.

WE HAVE TO EMBRACE AI for Production Coding if we want to stay ahead of the pack.

I think things will work out. Some great stuff is coming...

Happy coding!

No, you don’t have to use AI — just like you don’t have to adopt every new piece of tech that comes out. Saying “you’ll be left behind if you don’t use XYZ” is a flawed mindset. There are companies all over the country still running legacy stacks, older frameworks, and yes — even using jQuery in production. The reality is, not every company upgrades to the latest version, and not every company is rushing to implement AI for development. Hard skills, critical thinking, and a solid understanding of software fundamentals will always matter more than simply knowing how to prompt an AI. Tools come and go, but real engineering skills are what keep you valuable long-term. That’s probably why you’re losing subscribers.

Thank you to everyone who commented on this post. Every comment, both positive and negative, is constructive and helps me understand the situation and improve in the future. First, I'll continue making Rust coding videos, as I've been doing. One video on Blake3 is coming soon, along with another on SQLite. I'm also planning to produce videos on Rust and cloud systems that show how we have been building scalable SaaS apps for the past couple of decades. Now, the question is: Should I also share some of the new techniques my company and I are using to boost our Rust productivity? This a very challenging question to answer. The sad part is that YouTube is getting overwhelmed with vibe coding videos that are terrible for good software engineering. Nobody is really tackling production AI coding, even if every developer simply copies and pastes or asks some questions to ChatGPT or something similar. Perhaps I've explained the videos and their focus poorly. If/When I do some again, I will make sure to explain more the context. Maybe I can resume those videos when AI isn’t a taboo subject for real software engineers like us—then they might offer higher value. Anyway, thank you all for your honest feedback. This was a great insight.

Jeremy is a programmer creating and sharing its ways. Those who expect to be entertained are leaving.

When I see a video explaining how AI works or how to build one, I rarely pass. But all the rest of the videos just show use cases which I don't care about. It's like showing how to use a calculator or how to take notes. People are trying to dig deep where there's nothing left to dig. At this point, we all know how to prompt. And a lot of people are simply tired of watching this over and over. Most of your subscribers probably came to see programming tutorials, not prompting tutorials, and not AI promotion videos. I am not surprised that some of them leave when they see the direction change. They didn't want that, and they are tired of AI propaganda shoved down their throats from everywhere. I still watch your content from time to time, and not going to unsub because of that, but I don't want to watch anything about using AI tools at this point.

I don't understand the negativity and hate in the comment section. Anyway, dropped by to say I love your content. Keep doing whatever you are doing

It's simply a tool, a useful one, I don't see any problem with using it if we understand what's going on and carefully review it. If we don't understand the code, it is problematic. It's also useful for reviewing the code, sometimes we forget things, and it can remind us, find mistakes and bugs.

@DePistolero

If you have skills ai cam make you 1000x gains in speed and productivity very hard to argue against that!!!

Well, if you are fine losing subscribers you can be sure that you just lost another one. Hope you have none sooner than later

Oh I guess I've instinctively skipped over them thinking they were ads or something. Thank you for pointing out that this is what you're doing. Unsubscribed.
