It's concerning how many people are downplaying the contributions of Lord Kelvin in these comments. Yes, he made incorrect predictions and made mistakes, just as every other scientist of his time did. However, not only do we have the Kelvin temperature unit named after him, we also have contributions to electrostatics, magnetostatics, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics from him. He was using integral relations fluently before many others caught up to their importance in electric and magnetic systems, playing a major role in why we have the formally named "Kelvin-Stokes theorem," which multivariable calculus students will likely know as Stokes' curl theorem, the fundamental theorem of real-variable calculus in 3 dimensions. Not only this, but he essentially predicted that calculus would later evolve into a theory of dual forms and applied early applications of it as needed for his work in potential theory, which would later evolve into the theory of exterior calculus derived by Eli Cartan. Kelvin's work influenced the formulation of exterior derivatives, pullbacks in differential geometry, nilpotence of differential operators, and the Lie derivative. Yes, he made mistakes and was misguided in some areas (hell, I even highly disagree with his politics), but to call him an idiot is another level of cognitive dissonance entirely.

Yes, the well known Lord Kelvin, where would we be without him...

Continental Drift is still just a theory. There are still many non-proven aspects. Charles Darwin actually was the one who theorized the Expanding Earth Theory. He was also criticized for this.

He believed it couldn’t be true because he believed in the literal truth of the bible, which meant he thought the Earth was only around 6000 years old. He was a brilliant man but sadly misguided in this subject.

When I was 16 I spent the day with double Nobel prize winning scientist Linus Pauling . At the time I had no idea who he was I just agreed to go with my friend to keep her company because her mom and dad are making her go all these events that day So they picked me up in a vw hippie van I got in and there was an old man. I sat next to him since my freind was asleep. He was is very nice and interested about my schooling and what my hobbies were and stuff. Then we got to the rally. He was speaking but I wasn't paying attention really I was paying attention to my friend . Then we went to a college. Everybody would stop talking and as we would pass by . Thought what is going on ? We went into an auditorium, it was full of people that look like they were math and science teachers . hundreds of them ! That were now staring at us I managed to stay in the back . Years later when the internet came about. I decided to look him up.see who he actually was, turns out he was one of the scientists who discovered the unlocking of the nuclear code ! He was known as the modern day Aristotle , His best friend was Albert Einstein. Thats my story of me eating an egg McMuffin and coffee in a hippie van with Linus Pauling
