I'm sure many of you may be wondering if I'm playing "The Hundred Line", so here's your answer: Yes! I just started playing it, and have gotten through what was contained in the demo. Given its sheer length and volume of content, I expect it to be something I chip away at playing in the background for...a while, but since it's a Kodaka venture (even if not solely), I figured I'd give you guys some of my thoughts here after my first play session. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS BELOW.

First, a point of clarity: No, I'm not going to be streaming this game, for a few reasons. Given that it's such a huge time investment, it would take me a LONG while to get through, and honestly I'd like to take it at my own pace, completely on my own with no outside perspectives to really color my own. I also just already have a lot of ongoing stream commitments to get to anyway.

Now, here's the bullet points of my current opinions, having finished Day 7:
- The character designs are very hit or miss for me. There's some fun ones here and there, and in a vacuum I don't think very many look actively bad, but as a lineup I feel like they gel kind of oddly.
- Similarly, I'm really not sold on the look of the invaders right now. They feel very much like mobile game enemy fodder.
- The character writing itself varies. Characters like Ima and Kako make me grimace, but everyone else is at least tolerable, if not pretty good. Sirei is actually quite a bit of fun, and I quite like Eito, Takemaru, and Hiruko. Takumi is a fine MC.
- Darumi I'm pretty firmly split down the middle on. I find her design pretty ugly (sorry), and half of her lines make me sigh, but at the same time she's clearly the "taking the piss about Danganronpa" character, which does get some laughs out of me at times. I'm intrigued by what potential depths she may have behind this gimmick, and as with a lot of Kodaka's characters, I expect their gimmicks to give way to more interesting aspects over time.
- The music is absolutely fantastic, my goat Masafumi Takada knocks it out of the park again. There are a lot of "not Danganronpa" tracks in this, but tbh I quite like all of them. Sirei's theme is groovy as hell, and the Not "Trial Underground" track is also pretty great.
- The battle system is alright. I'm not a big SRPG gal, so I probably wouldn't be the best judge on this, but I can see how the systems are both easy to understand, while having a lot of potential for depth. I just wish the maps were more interesting/less homogenous.
- Quite a few good plot hooks have been seeded here, and like DR, offers a lot of good mysteries relating to the setting itself...which I have to imagine won't exactly fall headfirst into familiar DR twist territory, because how many times can we really lampshade that?

So, yeah, interested to play more. Maybe, just maybe, if I ever finish it, I'll talk about it at more length in the future.

@Wince_Media

It's nice to know your thoughts! I think a community post is a great way to let others know your opinion without needing to make a whole video about it, and I hope you make another post once you've finished your first playthrough of the game!

I haven't played any of the game myself so cannot comment, but I can't get over your way with words. So eloquent yet funny and concise as well! It's a golden combo

About halfway through my 2nd playthrough (just got Endings 51 and 52 for those who know) and I have to say I've absolutely fallen in love with the game! Honestly MOST characters I was iffy at the start I've grown to really adore. Even the designs I didn't like grew on me. I'm honestly gotten a little addicted, but boy is this game an absolute marathon. Can't wait to play more!

I’m around 60 days in and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I was a bit iffy on some of the characters near the start but most of them have really grown on me. My biggest disappointment is the lack of any sort of free time events or social links to get to know the characters better. I feel like I barely understand the characters who haven’t had much story presence. Hopefully that will be rectified in other routes that focus more on them.

Definitely for the best. I always enjoyed your DR retrospectives, and I figured it’s because you had time to sit with your thoughts more. With a game this long, you’re going to need plenty of time I’m sure. Besides I’m still catching up on the Higurashi VODs. Lol

@FowlTerror

I was genuinely wondering if you were going to play this game on stream. Not mad you aren't because I totally understand your reasons! Heck I've thought about getting the game but I haven't even had a chance yet to finish up the demo to know if I want to throw $80 (Canadian) at it. I have a sorta love-hate relationship with some of the writing in DR so I'm always cautious to jump face first into something written by Kodaka in case its just too much anime cringe for me lol.

I'm pretty far in and I LOVE this game. I enjoy SRPG games, so that alone hooked me. I can't stop playing! I gotta know what happens! I don't need sleep, I need answers!

As some who's seen about 50% of the routes by now while rambling about this game all over YouTube, Reddit, and Tumblr... The game only gets better as you go! Especially after the first ending.

I've gotten to the one hundredth day of the game, and I completely understand those high review scores. I'm not done with it yet but if the rest of the game is like what I've experienced like this then I am never ever going to shut up about it.

As a TRPG sucker I am having a lot of fun so far, want to finish the first run asap to get whatever content is locked behind it, hate the map design, I do enjoy the action economy as a guide for strategic battles I, honest to God, can't stand half of the characters lol Crazy enough, Darumi is the smallest of my headaches

@ManagerBlackwood

I got to day 84, and honestly even if it gets pretty repetitive, and Darumi makes me sighs everytime she talks... I think the story has some nice twists, an interesting mystery, and SOME likeable characters. I would like some of them even more if it wasn't for the ammount of sex related comments.

This was so fun I'd love to hear your thoughts on the game through more posts in the future

@butterfliesintherain

I'm not going to lie. Your take has made me SOMEWHAT interested in the game enough to consider playing it and I'm not even in the know about Fire Emblem at all to want to do that. But anyway, the hype is making me seriously consider buying it.

Legitimately hadn't heard of this game! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it so far

@velvetphi

I have reached day 100. I will say nothing as to avoid any spoilers to anyone here, but know this: Hundred Line is an absurd game. Everything you may have heard about this game being too crazy, too insane, too absurd to be something that really exists? It's true. Except even moreso, because this game is even more insane than you could possibly expect. It's a veritable modern magnum opus. To anyone reading: try that demo. The demo only just scratches the surface of what the full experience entails, but it still lets you get a grasp of the combat and some of the characters. And if you found the mystery interesting, or liked even just one of the characters... Consider giving the full game a try. Because it will deliver. Dive in, mute the game's name everywhere to stay clear of spoilers, and fall down the rabbit hole into hell. You won't regret it.
