Dear friends, today June, 28 is the anniversary of the second match between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson. The much anticipated fight took place in Paradise, Nevade but what we saw on the ring it was Hell happening. The then champion Holyfield and Tyson had met seven months before, when Mike was the WBA heavyweight titlist. The challenger won surprisingly with an 11th round TKO. Tyson complained about frequent headbutts by Holyfield so a rematch was guaranteed. On June 28, 1997 the two bitter enemies met again. And again Tyson was headbutted in the second round. Ref Mills Lane said the headbutting was no intentional. An enraged Tyson came out of his corner in the third round with no mouthpiece and, during a clinch, bit ferociously the right ear of Holyfield. Immediately the fight was stopped. Lane took time to decide what to do. The ring doctor decided the fight could continue but Tyson was penalized for his foul. During another clinch "Iron" Mike bit Holyfield left ear but the two continued fighting. After a replay of the action discovered the foul, Tyson was disqualified. After 35 minutes of pushing and shoving in the ring, announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. read the decision: "Ladies and gentlemen, this bout has been stopped at the end of round number three. The referee in charge, Mills Lane, disqualifies Mike Tyson for biting Evander Holyfield in both ears, the winner by way of disqualification and still the WBA Heavyweight Champion of the World, Evander 'the Real Deal' Holyfield!"
