So I did it. I finished Clair Obscur a few days ago….I’m wrecked and my head is still spinning (I’m also still doing post-game stuff but very glad to be free of spoilers and able to listen to the OST in full lol)

I haven’t experienced a soundtrack with such compelling use of leitmotif and musical storytelling since FF7 Rebirth and I am absolutely not done analyzing the music in this game LOL

I have one (or two? ish) more reaction vids to edit from before I started but after that I wanna dive back in on discussing themes, scenes, tracks, with context and how they all connect together. And maybe a few more music videos of course 😂 Drop all your suggestions below!

Something I just noticed today is that Renoir’s theme plays in the Prologue during the Gommage before Lost Voice, foreshadowing that it’s actually Renoir all along that invokes the Gommage.

Well done! I haven''t touched the game since I finished the story, I just can't for now. I have however watched over 100 hours of playthroughs and reaction videos such as yours, and i'm not stopping anytime soon :D

Nice!!! So glad you loved it!!! One track that I wouldn't have guessed I'd end up loving as much as I do is Our Drafts Collide, the Final Battle theme. It's so emotional. It's a remix of the tutorial battle. I love it when they do that

I want to say that "Our Draft Collide" was placed in the way that it delivered the most effective impact. It was almost evil how it hit people emotions, in that moment too. 😭

The battle themes go so hard! My favorites so far are Autumn Brush, Tisseur la Beaute, and Orphelin

Playthrough 2 is really good too! 100% worth doing to see the cut scenes fresh with context imo.

Une vie a rever This song really marked for me where the game story shifted from a JRPG adventure to defeat a godlike enemy, into a heartbreaking family story.

I’m so happy you mentioned the leitmotif in this game’s music, each time I noticed it I would nerd out about the way Lorien had incorporated it in a different style than I had just heard it 15 minutes prior

Since we can discuss spoilers, it will be interesting to see you revisit some of your first listen throughs. Especially when you realize the significance of Renoir's theme playing during the opening Gommage scene. I remember acquiring the Renoir track and being confused because I remember that theme playing with the Paintress and everytime the painted Renour appeared, it was something completely different that played. Then I cleared the Second Act and it made sense.

I cannot describe the feelings that came over me when I heard Clea's theme for the first time. Considering how often it was purposed as a leitmotif, actually understanding the fingerprint at the end of the game was musical bliss!

My personal favourites are Aline, Sciel, and Lune. Also special shoutout to the Ben Starr “Until Next Life” it’s both beautiful and extremely funny how he agreed to sing because he was drunk when asked.

Sweet! I just finished the game a few days ago myself. And looking up reactions is how I found you (Nice to be able to freely look up stuff about the game now lol). I definitely want to play the game again, now that I have the full context. Gonna let the first playthrough simmer for a while though.

Glad you loved the game Patti! As a HUGE rebirth fan myself, I concur with your conclusion. It’s truly a work of art that is complimented by a masterpiece of a sound track.

Congratulations! I just finished my third playthrough last night. This game has definitely become a special interest for me!!! I love it so much. Would love to hear you tackle "Goblu." Also would be curious to hear what you'd do with the "anxiety" motifs from Spring Meadows - the ones where Gustave sees the lancelier dissolve into chroma + when he finds the dead expeditioners (keeping it vague for spoiler reasons).
