My favorite is when the person you finally managed to get on the phone is yelling at you for being irresponsible like its your fault it didn't arrive. Getting any kind of assistance is such a miserable experience.

Girl, you can make $1 more than the insanely low bar and they'll suddenly say you're good to be on your own. Ya make too much to qualify but don't make enough to live. Fucking sucks. Wishing you the best <3

Unfortunately, a lot of what's happening is illegal. But since it's the federal government's job to self-regulate, when the people in power don't want to follow the law, there's very little that can be done :c

When you mail the documents, you always keep digital copies- call the office 4 business days later and have them pull the forms up. That's the best way to do it if you're in the midwest.

Real question; not trying to blame you: If you were to send them some kind of proof of postage, or have some kind of postage insurance, would that be accepted, or do they actually have to have the physical form?

Getting any kind of government assistance is rough as hell. About twelve years ago I got turned down for medical assistance (Medicaid) bc I had about $1100 in my checking account β no savings account btw, bc I could never keep up with the minimum balance. When the worker told me I was "too liquid" to qualify, I was like, "...I'm unemployed, that money is so I can pay my rent." Later that year they didn't tell me I'd qualified for food stamps for FOUR MONTHS, so when I finally got a card issued it had a five-month balance on it, and when it came to renew they told me I was ineligible bc I had too high of a balance on my card π And this was in Minnesota, one of the BEST states for government assistance. I think the medical assistance issue has gotten better though, now it's based solely on income and not on assets

Rylee G
it's crazy that they can take away your food stamps without warning because they somehow didn't get your form in the mail. how is this legal?
