That’s truly weird because when I started school milk was free, and we were allowed to have as many little cartons of it as we wanted. I remember that per day in the lunchroom was 30 cents, a week was $1.50. We had good meals, too, the only day they might have given us junk was like on Fridays when they gave us hamburgers or a hot dog, fries, slaw. Sometimes we got a fish square as a change, but it wasn’t breaded or anything like that. It was all fish. This was around 1965.

When I was in elementary school in the late 60s milk was 4 cents. I always wanted 2 but never got 2.

I know. I'm a year older than Opie. Hot dog day on an occasional Tuesday cost 25 cents with an approval signature from a parent. Horrible plain dog on a dry bun, no ketchup or mustard available and a tiny bag of plain potato chips. Disgusting, but I asked for the coin and approval note every time. Hope fails. Story of my life!
