650 scale Enterprise D: So found out that the metal plate is intended to take the place of the sensor band on the secondary hull, however it was made twice as thick by accident. So, instead of waiting for a new plate, and since the metal plate is not structurally critical, I am experimenting tonight with making laminated sheet styrene parts to take the place of the metal plate in the sensor band area. Once these 3 layers of .5mm styrene are cured, I'll test fit and adjust their size. Then I'll sand the outward face smooth before installing onto the lower hull segment.
