🎓 Still waiting for the “right time” to start learning? Dr. Karri Ramareddy didn’t. He just completed 11 NPTEL courses—at age 72.

While most people retire at 72, Dr. Karri Ramareddy is just getting started. A veteran psychiatrist, lifelong learner, and the recipient of prestigious honours like the Rashtrapati Award and Dr. B.C. Roy Award, Dr. Ramareddy has now earned 61 academic degrees, including three PhDs and five LLMs—with 11 certifications through NPTEL, offered by premier institutions like IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur.

That’s not all—he’s also topped eight NPTEL courses, achieving Elite Plus Silver and Gold grades, placing him among the best learners in the country.

Born in Rajamahendravaram and raised in the small town of Anaparthi in Andhra Pradesh, his journey—from MBBS at Rangaraya Medical College to MD at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and beyond—is a masterclass in relentless curiosity.

“As long as you are curious, every day becomes a new opportunity. There is no age limit for learning,” he says. From Law to Yoga to Education, he has pursued knowledge with discipline and heart—studying five hours every day, even in his 70s.

Dr. Ramareddy is now preparing for his next academic pursuit. Because for him, life itself is the classroom. At NPTEL, we’re glad to be a part of this incredible journey.

If his story moved you, share this. Let’s remind the world: Learning has no age limit.

@vj.joseph

There is no actual need for 61 degrees. 2 degrees atmost is more than enough. Focusing on the degree you need and the related job is the only thing that matters. These dudes who go for such extents are not wired as most people, so most people must avoid doing what they do.

Degrees are useless if you can't implement what you learned

Life time learning is respectful but it should generate wealth or atleast to be useful in someway to others otherwise its purposeless

The ones who have never ever gone beyond a degree are trying to give their bad reviews for the great man. Practical is of course what we want to achieve but it grows in the womb of theories.

Stupidity by just learning not applying anything anywhere like 5 LLM but why? Is not one LLM is enough

Not that I'm complaining, what did he achieve by doing all these courses and skills? Should people focus on identifying their skills and sharpening them instead of learning everything under the sun for "curiosity"? I never understand what you will do with some papers called degrees, I also got some, but i never feel like they are some medals of honour, all I had to do was sit through some classes and do some study, boom, got those degrees. Is this ALL education is about? Going behind papers? I wish I asked this question myself a decade ago. The current indian education system is BUILT to fail you.
