Question: I’m nearly 74 years old. In 1972 I traveled to San Jose, CA. to see a drum corps show called ‘Pacific Procession?’. I was blown away by the show, but it was the Kingsmen that really grabbed my heart. I walked around , after retreat, to watch the Kingsmen exit the stadium. As a drummer, it was the snare line that blew me away. On and off, over the decades, I have always remembered Tom Float and Ralph Hardimon as giants. I’ve always wondered who was Tom and Ralph’s mentor? Don Porter? Drum corps is all about trees and lineages, in terms of playing, teaching etc. Any thoughts on who might have been instrumental in influencing Tom or Ralph? Thanks!
