Honestly if you look at it in large, Google is closing down their devices and the OS because of the lawsuit (Started in 2013 and concluded in the federal court of appeals in 2025.) argued Google used anticompetitive practices, including contractual barriers and payments to developers, to stifle competition and force developers to use the Play Store. The court had ordered Google to make significant changes, such as allowing third-party app stores on Android and ending exclusive payment requirements, although Google has appealed some of the ruling. (They continue to appeal in hopes of reversal.) If they close the system down, they gain time to continue operating as they always have, until they're forced into an Apple situation, unless they find another way out.
(This is also happening to Chrome Browser as well.)
