I knew a child who had sickle cell and the pain she went under was horrific to see. I was taught how to look after her if she was having an episode before the ambulance arrived. I don’t know where she is now as this was years ago, I hope and pray she is still with us. A cure needs to be found for this and thalasemia and diabietrks.

I was born inItaly with sickle cell and thalassemia, this is my experience and in no way can I talk for other people. The pain of the crisis when I was young made me ask my parents to kill me. For most of my life my choices were ruled by the fear of sickle cell crisis. I have been given Hydroxiurea for the past 20 years and it changed my life because, even if it doesn't improve the severe anaemia, it prevents me from having all those severe crisis that lasted days and days, even if I do have milder ones that still limit my life but I manage them with codeine and ibuprofen at home. I know that many sickle cell patients don't find hydroxiurea very beneficial, but I would advice everyone at least to give it a go ❤❤
