Guitar for HIS Glory

A common question I receive in the consults I give is “What exercises do you do to get better?” My answer is usually, “I don’t really have any. I’ve been playing for 25+ years, so the days of plugging away at exercises is over for me. I’ve built that foundation.”

But that question stuck with me, because not everyone is 25 years in. And I realized this was a real gap in the Worship Guitar Boot Camp and Basic Training syllabus. So I set out to build something that could meet that need.

Over the past few months, I thought carefully about the kinds of exercises that would’ve helped me the most when I was first learning to play worship guitar. The result is a new members-only section: Exercises: Put in the Work — featuring 7 short-form training videos.

Here they are: guitarforhisglory.com/exercises-put-in-the-work/

These are different from my usual content. They’re short, focused, and built for repetition—more like physical workouts than lessons. Just pick one and loop it until it feels natural. Most are under a minute long. Tabs are on screen and printable.

Benefits I hope you’ll realize and skills I hope you’ll build:
Finger dexterity · Hand strength · Accurate fingering · Hammer-ons and pull-offs · Clean slides · Alternate picking · Picking pressure control · Stroke direction · Dynamics · String skipping · Pattern and shape switching · Visual fretboard tracking · Sustained notes · Muting techniques

These are for the folks who want to put their head down and put in the work. I hope they help you develop further and get you closer to focusing less about playing guitar while you're in the moment, and focus more on Christ. That’s always the goal!
