Blind on the Move

Hey everyone! I wanted to take a moment to introduce (or re-introduce) myself for anyone new around here.

I’m Mike Mulligan—an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) and Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) with over a decade of experience helping people who are blind or visually impaired gain skills, confidence, and independence.

As a COMS, I teach people how to travel safely and independently using tools like the white cane or a guide dog. This includes navigating streets, using public transit, and building confidence in new environments.

As a CVRT, I help individuals adapt daily living skills—from cooking and organizing to using assistive technology. I also work on everything from communication and home management to tech training and sensory development.

I was diagnosed with Coats’ Disease at 17—a very rare retinal disease that affects my right eye causes limited vision in that eye, and leads to double vision. That diagnosis changed the course of my life and inspired me to support others navigating vision loss.

On this page, I share tips, tools, tech, and real-world strategies to make life more accessible. Whether you're blind, low vision, a parent, a teacher, or just someone who wants to learn—this space is for you.

Thanks for being here!
