The Nameless Narcissist

So, for anyone who knows someone to have an iq between 180-190, I think it's important to remember that clinically respected and statistically validated tests tend to fall within the 40-160 range. And I'd recommend those people who claim that to take a more validated test such as the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale or the Stanford–Binet Intelligence Scales. Both of which are the most highly respected and max out at 160.

For those of you who don't know, iq is based on a percentile score. So someone with an iq of 100 has the average score. So they would be smarter than 50% of the population, and less intelligent than 50% of the population. (50th percentile) someone with an IQ of 132 would be more intelligent than 99% of the population and less than 1%. Making that person be a 1 out of 100 find.(99th percentile) Now, using logic and basic math, someone with an iq of 180 would be one in 3,000,000, and someone with an iq of 190 would be one in 100,000,000. I have never seen a study that has included enough people to be able to measure an IQ like that accurately. Even if they did, they'd have one person, maybe two. Definitely not enough to make it reliable.

Any IQ test measuring that high may be able to measure up to the 99th percentile accurately, but things even get iffy at an IQ of 160. There is no way an IQ test can measure up to 190 in a reliable fashion. Perhaps the scores are measured at a different standard deviation, but even if so, that is not the norm and so that score does not mean what you'd assume it does.

Of course, this is not aimed at anyone in particular. Any coincidental overlaps in happening are purely that, coincidence. However if you see someone claim to be a professional and spout that to be their IQ I suggest you look at their credentials.

But hey, I'm a narcissist. Maybe I'm just envious with my lowly IQ in the 99th percentile. So I encourage anyone to do their own research into the validity of IQ tests that measure that high. If I get compelling evidence I'll delete this. Cause I've had enough therapy that I attempt to stop myself from lying to people for the purpose of self aggrandizing.

Have a good one!

not a rebuttal at all, but navigating the IQ territory has been really interesting, especially when looking at the history of scientific racism and it's more modern offshoots. personally having been a tad too obsessive with proving the validity of my own high IQ in the past, it was fairly traumatising to learn that the relation between IQ and intelligence is... tenuous, at best. IQ tests really only test for, well, IQ - which isn't the same as intelligence, nor was it even originally intended to be. it more measures for a specific adeptness towards tackling written exams - which can actually be increased with education, rejecting the biological essentialism inherent to the concept. this would explain the rising average IQ scores we've been seeing since the 1940s. one might imagine, though, that the measurement of IQ for certain disprivileged minority groups that aren't adjacent to the cultural and educational establishments needed to develop proficiency in exam-taking, might tend to lean a little low, and it certainly would be rather irresponsible to make some grand essentialist claim based on those heavily skewed results? well, I'm sure no one's ever done anything that silly.

That’s really cool that your IQ is so high. That is an accomplishment but I wouldn’t base it on your whole personality or worth. Your ability to use cognitive empathy is more important than a high IQ honestly. Hear me out! A high IQ may bring more opportunities and academic conversations, but increased empathy (doesn’t matter what kind) will help you in a lot more areas. It can help strengthen personal and professional relationships. It can bring more opportunities. It can help shift your perspective. It can increase trust. It can make others want to be around you more..Etc.

Out of curiosity, which test did you take?

@dogtrainingmexico

Or we can forget about knowing our IQ. My parents refused to tell me my score, just said it was very high. I can live with that, there are many other aspects of a person's identity...

I scored 133 on wais but dropped out of high school.. Idk, I think IQ is a great way to maybe figure out if a child has some learning disability or something... But if you are an adult and are extraordinarily good at something, you should have something to show for that other than an IQ test.. until then IQ means nothing

This is my experience with IQ first mine is 86 the only time I've ever had a difficult time keeping up with someone in an argument was when I met someone who's IQ was 141 it was the most challenging and enjoyable argument I've ever had didn't lose it but also didn't win more like a draw we left things on good terms respectfully I say this because even though I'm a bit slow in the book learning department i still try to educate my self on different things but my smarts are in other areas it's good to have balance same as the person I was arguing with he wasn't just intelligent in book learning but also in people because even with a high IQ I would have easily out thunk him if he didn't have a mix of both types of intelligence it's important to have balance

I don't need the test. I'm slow. But diligent.

Who can make a valid test, which measures some qualities only one from millions have, when the test maker has so much lower IQ himself? I have IQ in top 1,5 % and I am not capable to plan even a test that measures who is in the highest 1 %.

@olivegrove5215

It's what you do with your IQ that counts. The tests are usually irrelevant to your work or studies. e.g. you put out interesting and insightful talks on NPD, very few people can do this. That doesn't mean that other people have low intelligence because they can be good at something else. Whereas you show you are clever in producing these videos.

Having a high IQ is good but pair that with common sense is better.
