A Brush with Bekah

So… I accidentally ingested arsenic this week. NOT CLICKBAIT, NOT JOKING.

Video coming out tomorrow, but here’s the short version:

1. I am safe and unharmed, and exhibiting no signs of acute poisoning (it’s been over 5 days now) so I can confidently say I believe I’m in the clear, and will escape this situation pretty much unscathed. THANK. GOODNESS.

2. There was a pigment that was horrifically mislabeled and misidentified by the seller, who unknowingly sold arsenic to me marketed as “bovine yellow” a nontoxic Indian Yellow replica. Later, further tests would confirm it was actually ORPIMENT— otherwise known as arsenic sulfide, an arsenic-based mineral. (This was after multiple observations, tests, and sources confirmed its “authenticity” to the seller.)

3. Not knowing this, and having been repeatedly assured of its safety and composition beforehand, I mulled this pigment without a mask, and got a pretty hearty inhalation exposure as a result. Thankfully, the only consequence I seem to have suffered was an increase of caution about ANY pigments I work with, but under different circumstances, I might have been writing a very different post right now. Again, I’m incredibly thankful that things worked out as well as they did.

The rest will have to wait for tomorrow- so be on the lookout for a video about Indian yellow and some nonsense about arsenic poisoning.😌💜💀

(Please do not harass this business owner if you come across them- this was a horrifying and tragic situation, but also one with an incredible amount of nuance as far as placing blame goes, with a lot of issues with both the seller and the supplier who sold it to the seller. I’ll address that in my video tomorrow.)
