when movies and tv tell you that money doesn't matter or that poor people are actually more noble and whole than rich people, these pieces of media are produced by the wealthy class. these medias are, in fact, little more than elites manufacturing complacency within the lower classes so that the poor will not strive to materially enrich their own lives and thereby threaten the power positions of the wealthy

"Money doesn't buy happiness. But it does buy peace of mind." Money may not make me happy, but it's certainly easier to find that happiness when I don't have to worry if there'll be food on the table tomorrow night.

Many working people are not class conscious and sympathize with billionaires, while the rich are extremely class conscious and have never stopped defending their interests zealously.

Money doesn't buy happiness, but it can pay off a few sources of misery

The poor must unite against the 1% to enrich their lives. I would say that the stories in media depicting the 1 broke person that grinded their way to immense wealth and power are more dangerous to the mentality, it feeds into the false promise that with enough hard work anything js possibile, while completely ignoring all the biases and extra steps that are entrenched into the average person's existence

I agree but it is important to note that materially enriching oneself is not just getting more money. Money is a vehicle to material wealth. You have to make money to fulfill your desires, not let money be your desire. That very quickly leads to financial immorality.

I think we shouldn't be complacent about poverty, but it's a trap to view the solution as striving to enrich ourselves individually. We need to look after one another, and we need to change the corrupt systems that create this poverty and wealth, this massive power imbalance in our society.

That may be true today but the idea of it is far older and has humbler beginnings. Hinduism and Buddhism both teach of letting go of material things. Christianity teaches that while material things and money are not bad in and of themselves, idolizing them above God is. Like most things this problem is about power. Most Billionaires could literally buy almost whatever they want, and yet they still always want more. Money is just a conduit to power and is therefore not an aspect of greed, but pride in this sense. It is this sin that is far more insidious and dangerous to our souls.

And if more people believed this, and started working harder and with more purpose, the result would be more money flowing upward toward the richest in society.

True. I was gonna stage a coup d'etat until I watched Forrest Gump and it made me complacent with the power positions

Money can buy happiness tbh. Like genuinely ask yourself what would make you happy, then ask how much easier it would be to achieve with lots of money.

That's a half-truth. The other half is a morality. Noble people won't steal bc they'll think Less of themselves. That's a building of character. Our "leader" is all "Might makes right." He is proud of how much he can get away with. He never has known integrity, muchless the value of being able to walk upright because you are decent!

Coming from someone who’s been extremely poor, I think there genuinely is something in having less. It’s not about being complacent, but just about learning from the difficulties.

India's caste system. Medieval feudalism. Many Eastern religions. Ayn Rand's "Anthem." Today's economic system of credit scores. It's easier to control people if they're trained from birth to accept what they're told they're allowed and expected to be. This occurs to some extent in every society. Studies show more possibilities make choosing the right direction infinitely more difficult. The crux of the problem rests in whom we trust to determine everyone else's "highest and best calling" when it's human nature to pick the option that gives us the most results from the least effort. "Eight for me, one for you...very fair." - Frail Grasp of the Big Picture, Eagles (Don Henley). Songwriters like him and Jackson Browne are the greatest modern philosopers of our age😊
