Is art more about STYLE or SKILL? the ultimate debate

@sleapygrle

They go hand in hand, you can’t have a consistent style without building skills

@YayItsCaroline19

As long as you care about the craft and dedicate yourself to improving, I think that’s all that matters.

Skill is mostly useful for drawing coherent and/or an aesthetically appealing. Style is what makes your art unique and a truly good artist will explore different ways to make art

Skill is definitely more important, style can be cool… but if you stay the same you won’t improve, and improving is a very big part about art for most people.

In a world where everyone has the same skill, what matters is the style In a world where everyone has the same style, what matters is the skill

A skillful artist can emulate all sorts of styles

@jamie6506

Art itself is more about style, but GOOD art takes skill.

@qubesses

neither, it's about expression

@sasspressopolio

Neither—I think it’s about passion. I’ll always think a “bad” piece of art with someone’s heart poured into it is better than a “good” piece of art with no soul whatsoever

for yourself or other people? id say as long as you enjoy making art, thats all you need. theres no point being very skilled or having a great style if you loathe the process for others id say style is something people like to see more. i mean theres tons of artists that post nothing but simplistic doodles and people seem to love them so theyre doing something right. ofc everyone loves a technically skilled drawing too but i'd argue as long as you have a distinct style, people would like your art regardless of how skilled you are

@Nohhbahdi

Both, and neither. Art is about the soul you pour into it.

@ZackBlackwood97

Both. You use your skills to find the style you are best at. Like, a portrait artist wouldn't be hired to do pop up flash art

Art is subjective, the opinions vary from person to person. However it's a fact that art is a form of communication. So no, you don't need to be skilled to be an to communicate, but you need to be skilled if you want to impress people. Both go hand in hand but a "noob artist" is still an artist.

@Redheadsforthewin

I’d say it’s a healthy combination of both

@Hypnotiqgenes

Both in different measures.

@LeeDassin

Both come with time and I don’t really think I can decide between them because both are important and unique to the artists journey

People keep focusing on the details without seeing what the bigger picture really is. Art is a form of self expression. I think about art more to do with style than skill. Anything can be art if you put enough passion in it after all. Yes, if you're going to art school and are learning about animations, backgrounds, anatomy, perspectives, colour theory etc it all does require skill that can be learnt but I do not think that thats applied to all art out there. Just because you do not have those skills doesn't mean you're not able to create art. Art accepts all different levels of skills and it actually does not matter at all in the grand scheme of things. Style is all about finding what your true form of art is and I think that's more important than the level of skill in art. You don't need skill to make art you're truly passionate about

@goodeveningduchess

I voted skill but I actually think it's equal between the two. What's really important in art is passion and the desire to create.

I believe nowadays, as everything can be called “art”, is more about style than skill. But I totally believe that It should be the opposite!
