The madness beings! Oh boy was this an expensive week ladies and gentlemen. In order to record footage for you for Saturday's return I needed some gear. First up was a new capture card that would work with my new all-Mac setup I have at home (M2 MacBook Air and M3 iMac fully spec'd out).
This bad boy let me connect to my new M3 iMac, and use OBS to capture 1080p 60fps, which is precisely what the RetroTINK 5X-Pro outputs, so yay, that's one item down. The catch is that since this is on a Mac, it doesn't have the horsepower to allow for me to use Elgato's game capture software which means I needed a separate monitor to actually play the games on, so this one was on sale on Amazon and I grabbed it.
Why 4K you might ask, because technically I can record Xbox and PS5 footage with this too should I desire down the road, even if the capture limit is stuck at 1080p. The monitor works great as it allows me to easily connect to the new capture card via HDMI, and power it via USB-C, but that meant I was running low on ports on my new iMac (has 4 ports, 1 is locked to my 1TB SSD and another is connected to my Blue Yeti microphone). So I had to get this dock to expand the number of ports I have on my computer.
This thing is incredible! It not only looks like Apple made it, but the iMac fits snuggly into it and grants me a lot of wonderful expansion options, which is 100% what I needed to make this setup work. EverDrives require SD cards, so that's omega helpful to now have built right into the computer hub. I have to say I'm thrilled to have this and highly recommend it for any iMac user. Next up I wanted to do more than just be able to capture Switch and Saturn content. I have Analogue Interactive systems here after all so why not pick up an EverDrive or two so I could mix things up for Retro Wednesdays, which I also plan to revive.
With all of this I figure I am officially good to go. Now I just have to wait for Saturday to have the time available to connect everything and away I go. One very cool thing I didn't mention is that the iMac hub actually allows for an M.2 SSD, so I also purchased one of those.
I got a decent deal on it so I figure I can use the extra storage for all the ROMs I need. Speaking of which, I got everything ready for the Saturn, Genesis, and TG-16, so I'm officially ready to go! Needless to say this was a VERY expensive few weeks when you include the RetroTINK and Satiator, and something to be mindful of if you ever plan to do something similar yourself. These gadgets are very pricey, but absolutely necessary to make my comeback to YouTube.
Thanks for reading everyone, and I hope you'll join me on this return journey. I'm trying my absolute best to get you all 1 video every week of varying content, so maybe it'll be a podcast, maybe a vlog, perhaps a review, etc. When I have additional content, I'll go ahead and post that too so you should always have something to look forward to :)
