Dan Davis History

Hi there, did you see my latest video on the Mines of Kargaly? https://youtu.be/hQZxgzA-Uak

It's such an incredible place, the region is so extensive. Obviously they've done lots of excavations there (mainly late 90s to early 2000s) but there's still so much left to uncover.

It takes a huge amount of labour to excavate even a small section of tunnels and there are literally thousands of vertical shafts that are unexcavated and hundreds of miles of tunnels. Who knows what more there could be to discover down there?

I made a few videos now about prehistoric copper mining. Some people have asked about a tin mining video so please let me know if that's something you'd be interested in seeing. Maybe you're bored of ancient mining already.

The next video will be about ceramic technology, something requested by a long time Patreon supporter.

Thank you all for watching, I hope you enjoyed this video.

Cheers,
Dan

Of course I watched it, Dan Davis videos are an auto-watch for me. It's crazy how that region was a hot-spot for copper on 3 separate occasions, and each time it produced several tens of thousands of tons. For literally thousands of years, up to recent times.

Hi Dan, I'm Cornish and this is my 2nd time requesting a video about prehistoric Cornwall :) my ppl are THE tin miners. Mining history is popular here and not a niche subject- our patron St Pirans story is connected to tin, we eat tin miner food everyday (pasties) and we wear hammered tin and pewter jewellery as fashion. Its a relevant subject. If you do make that video, it would be so cool to see some details or maps in a video about the trade routes of the bronze age, what was traded for tin and between what people.

It was super interesting. I saw copper axes in a museum in Tbilisi that were pre christian by a good margin. They had some amazing molds. Very intricate and very weird shapes. I am an axe blacksmith today so I was enlightened by it. Gave me some ideas. I would like to test a copper axe vs a steel axe today on how well or bad it would have performed compared to a modern one.

@overworlder

Yes, tin mines would be interesting since there were so few of them and presumably the competition to control them was intense

@Graaskaegg

Yes. Impressing what human mind and labour can do. Btw found a YT channel that in my mind had connections to your video on sails in Scandinavia. FORMAT HISTORIA has a series of videos about Rökstenen, a runestone from early viking age and the possibility of the organisation of Sweden/Svithiod as a sort of trade union state and older than historians traditionally thought it to be. Unfortunately in Swedish but translation and material connected to it might be available.

What about an episode on Grime's Graves, if you're doing mines.
