Ever notice how your TikTok feed sometimes gets stuck showing you content you really don't want to see?
That's exactly what intrusive thoughts are like.
Except instead of TikTok's algorithm... it's your mind doing the programming.
And just like social media...
The more you engage with those thoughts...
The more your mental feed fills up with similar content.
Here's what most people don't realize:
You can't completely shut off your mind's feed.
But you can change how you interact with it.
Think about it...
When you see content you don't like on TikTok, what do you do?
You simply scroll past.
You don't: • Try to argue with the content • Watch it repeatedly to disprove it • Let it consume your thoughts all day • Fight with yourself about why you saw it
You just... keep moving forward.
Your intrusive thoughts work the same way.
The moment you start resisting them...
Or trying to prove they aren't real...
Or attempting to push them out of your mind...
You're essentially telling your brain:
"This content matters. Show me more of this."
Instead, try this approach:
When difficult thoughts appear...
Simply observe them like a post on your feed.
"Interesting. My mind created that content."
Then keep scrolling.
No resistance. No judgment. No engagement. Just awareness and movement.
Can you still engage with positive thoughts?
Of course.
Just as you choose to watch uplifting content...
You can mindfully engage with thoughts that serve you.
But remember:
Your thoughts are simply content your mind is creating.
They're not who you are.
You are the quiet observer, watching the feed scroll by.
Is this simple to do?
Not always.
But like any new habit, it becomes more natural with practice.
