Its a tough argument, employer of over 2 million directly, much more indirectly, the armed forces spends that money rather that send it to shareholders, yes its a big number but its spent on actual people, on jobs. Those jobs provide sevices beyond war, coast guard, search and rescue, emergency response, engineers, it provides a path to subsidized and free education, its a path out of poverty for some, healthcare, hell the military is practically a socialist organization. The military does provide benefit outside of war.
