It's times like this when I feel a bit conflicted... Like, I am absolutely stoked to finally try out a new technique and successfully make something that I really wanted to, but on the other hand, I kinda already know that it's not what majority of my subscribers are looking for. I feel bad for not making things that they want me to make, but I feel even worse if I keep making things that don't challenge me artistically, while pushing back projects that I am passionate about.
I started the channel in 2021, making exclusively 1/6 scale videos, which didn't really work. Back then, I was trying to make custom figures of whatever new movie was releasing, thinking I could ride the hype and get some views, but it failed. A little into late 2021 was when I stumbled upon Toy Story customs, and I was sure that I could make the best customs through 3D printing and painting after doing some research. That's what I focused on in 2022, trying to make 1 full custom per week, but I was out of my depth because unlike 1/6 scale figures, Toy Story toys are life size, and significantly bigger than what I was used to make weekly. That's when I got burnt out, and went on a break.
I returned in 2023, determined to mixed both Toy Story and 1/6 scale customs into my schedule and try to make it work, but again, 1/6 scale content just consistently fall behind Toy Story content. I then tried to make Toy Story content exclusively for the rest of 2023, thinking the channel finally found its footing and should continue to grow with each video. To my dismay, after trying so many different characters, I realized that only Main characters do well in terms of views, so even if I put in the same or even more effort to make a side character, my time would not be compensated fairly.
That's why I decided to switch it up and try something new, which was Poppy Playtime and FNaF. I was nervous about the change, but turns out, Poppy Playtime has a much stronger and bigger fanbase than Toy Story, which made sense since Toy Story 4 came out in 2019 and Poppy still has regular game releases. I thought FNaF would have a similar fanbase, but unfortunately, FNaF videos did not do well on my channel, even though they do well on other channels for some reason. What I did not expect was, even though I finally had pretty good views every month, they were still running into the same Main character issue, so whatever side character I made just didn't matter even if the creative techniques used were new and interesting to me.
I am so sick of chasing views. I just want to share my passion with my fans, share my collection, share my creations, learn new skills, talk about things that I care about, and not try to work the algorithm. I am going to try YouTube for another year in 2026, this time try to sell myself instead of whatever character I make in the video. I want to be the reason why people click on my videos. I will try to share different things in my videos, so that our viewers will get accustomed to a variety of content, rather than just one franchise, because things get really stale really quick if I do things for views. I hope being myself would be good enough to make YouTube into a career, otherwise... Idk what I'll do next.
