On some real shit, people hold the Cell arc against Goku, but imo that was the highpoint of him being a father. Sometimes you have to be hard on your kids to bring their potential out of them. Sometimes you have to push the responsibility on their shoulders in preparation for when you aren't there to help them. Sometimes you have to step back and allow them to fight their own battles. Sometimes your sins will be passed down to them, and its your responsibility to prepare them for that. And eventually you might have to entrust the household to them and have faith that they will step up to be the man your family needs in your abscence.
