PSVR2 Without Parole

Resident Evil 9 was revealed tonight at Summer Game Fest with no mention of a VR mode anywhere. So what do you think? What are the chances we get PSVR2 support at some point?

@Superhermit

I wanna say yes because The RE engine has so many built in VR tools, and devs already have the learnings. Also, the RE audience is vocal about having VR support

Just found out RE9 will be BOTH first person and third person with the ability to switch between the two at any point during the game from the options menu. So I would say the possibility of VR is even closer to being a thing. 🤘

@TheDiepzone

At one point the Capcom VR team did say they’re working on stuff so one can be hopeful

7 was in Vr, 8 was in Vr, Even the 4 remake was in Vr……So why wouldn’t 9 be?!? I’d be more shocked if they didn’t do a VR port.

You know what! Screw it! I'm changing my original thought and saying yes, PSVR2 will get support! I just read an article that was from the devs at Capcom who specifically did the Re7, 8, and 4R ports and not only did they praise VR and say that RE and VR go hand n hand but said they're undertaking more "challenges" in the future basically referring to VR, and so that makes me think that they were referring to Re9, but couldn't say that specifically at the time of this article (July 2024). I think they're all in and it will get announced at Sony Sept event.

@Alien_Iso

Capcom has already expressed a desire to continue with vr, in a recent interview, & has made 3 games in VR. Its definitely happening

@affenpresser

Believe me they will!!! The firstperson view and also clues from the devs saying enough. Also their success with the vr modes of re4/7/8 are something to work on. VR is struggling at the moment but it will come back and also capcom should be aware of it and develop their VR knowledge. Horror in VR is the future. VR is the future.

I’m voting definitely happening because I need to believe!!!

@ScootaGray

Re7, Re8, Re4 remake all have full on VR. The chances are seeming pretty high. Maybe not upon release like Re4 remake but the track record says it should have it for sure.👍

@jeremoople

It will probably have it, but not at launch

Not at launch but I do see a DLC drop!

I think the current strategy for some flat games will be to show as flat only first. Build excitement for traditional console and PC. Then once that wave of excitement has passed then use the VR to keep gaining interest of a secondary audience. Also from a Sony standpoint I doubt they can stop aiding RE series otherwise it’ll look like they’re giving up completely.

@GreyMatterShades

I voted pretty unlikely, but I think there's maybe around a 40% chance of it happening. I wasn't expecting them to mention VR support if it was announced at SGF, as RE4 Remake only mentioned PSVR2 at the State of Play, and nowhere else when the trailer was posted other places. Even Capcom's showcase later had a PSVR2 segment on Sony's channel, but Capcom's own channel replaced that segment with info on the Mac/iOS version. There's some things going against RE9 getting VR support. Seems bigger/more ambitious (maybe open world?), which would make VR harder to implement. Also I think the odds of Sony paying for it are smaller, as there have already been two RE games on PSVR2 and neither has spurred massive hardware sales (or even been played by a large portion of PSVR2 owners according to Capcom's numbers). I could see Sony passing on funding the VR mode this time. I hope Sony funds it though, and Capcom clearly believes in VR. They have a VR team and their engine supports it (though if they added new tech for RE9, that'll have to be made VR compliant too). And apparently this has been in development since RE7, so Sony might've signed them to a VR deal and paid for it years ago. Fingers crossed, but I'm not holding my breath.

@welfiblablabla

I doubt at launch, maybe later on

@acrefresh

If it's gonna be in 1st person, i believe it'll most definitely roll out a vr mode. If its 3rd person like 2 and 3 remake most likely not. Re4 was an exception...i cant picture playing a future re game not in vr anymore 😢

@flippynuggets

They have been consistently supporting VR up until now, and their games have been very well received by the community. So unless I'm missing something, I see no reason why not. Bring it peeps!

@braxbro7602

There is no REason why they won't

I’m praying 🙏

I think its fairly high, cause the RE team loves VR. But it depends on how this is the most ambitious RE game. If the design doesn't get in the way, then I think it'll be in VR eventually. But the games scope may prevent it. Like if it pushes the PS5 to its limits and its not technically feasible to scale back a but for VR or something. Remains to be seen
