Poor Dunce

To all my Stardew Valley-heads out there... is there an ethically vegan way to acquire Solar and/or Void Essence?

Are these items, only acquirable as loot from "monsters" - intrinsically tied to their essence, or merely possessions that they have acquired?

Are there some 'monsters' from which it would be ethically justifiable to acquire and utilize this resource from?

The ethical pit runs deep...

@Veganbytheway

Since you can only acquire them yourself by choosing to go into the mines and then "defending" yourself, I don't think that's particularly vegan. If you choose the setting to have your farm be attacked and maybe get stuff from that (I forget the drops), then I guess that's a bit... Hm. Your character didn't choose that themselves, but you could have opted not to, and your character can also go turn it off at the witch's hut anyway. Buying them from Krobus, though... I think that's interesting, because depending on his sourcing, that could potentially be okay, depending on how the essences actually occur and how he collects them. Since he's a shadow person, perhaps he can go into the mines without conflict. I mean, they drop from his people. If the bees themselves opened up a stall and sold their own honey, it'd be different, you know? It'd be weird and maybe the honey wouldn't be the thing I'd focus on there, but still, if they could choose to sell it themselves, like Krobus, then the discussion changes.

@kazooo.

Krobus sells void essence and is a shadow person.

I dont think any of these monsters naturally spawn on the wilderness farm.i do think the wilderness farm would be a good option though because it can give you a morally justifiable reason for killing things as they would be invading your home.

I'm going to say that there is NOT a vegan way to gather these items from monsters in the mines nor on the Wilderness farm. To start, I cannot imagine why these would be mere posessions that the ghosts/shadow beings/other creatures own. If so, why do they drop only one? Veganbytheway does make a great point about self-defense, but if I'm willingly putting myself in a situation where I am stronger than my sapient opponent, have a higher level of sentience than my opponent, and have something to gain by killing them, then self-defense goes out the window. I'd be doing it to get Void Essence, not in defense. We then need to rely on Krobus. As a magical being himself, I'm willing to bet he has found a way to create void essence at least, and he's reselling it. I very heavily doubt that he has been killing his own people or grave robbing. If he has, he is beyond evil for doing so, as his dialogue also OPENLY ACKNOWLEDGES that his other shadow buddies are less capable of speech or negotiation. I do not know how he gathers solar essence. Maybe he found a way to make this too, but that is really, really unlikely. Though Stardew also forces us to ask "is killing a ghost for its essence vegan" which is just an insane fucking question that I would love to hear more about. I personally do not know where to start there.
