@frederickhampel5452

It was issued in 1862 after the battle of Antietam. It took effect on January 1, 1863.

The way things are turning out I wish Lincoln would have got his way/wish. We'd all be better off.

It was issued in 1862, but didn’t take effect until 1863.

God I have a love hate for these questions because they’re a refresher for me from my time in grade school where I was a straight A student in history, but I have such a hard time keeping numbers in the proper order so years are not always easy for me. I dunno if anyone else experiences dyscalculia but it’s been the reason I was a straight A and one C-D student with math being the culprit. I always have to write my math down and double check to make sure I didn’t scramble a date or phone number

@soundcheck2k7

Question is, why did the "union" wait until 1863 for this "proclamation"? 🤣

@Roadglide911

It didn’t free all slaves. It only freed selves in the states that were in “Rebellion “. It wasn’t intended to help the poor black folk it was intended to disrupt the economy of the confederate states.

@JamesLarryConnelly

They were fighting for years before slavery came up. Just shows they are willing to do anything to get people to support a war.
