The Excellent Laborer

DIY isn’t always pretty.

It’s late. You’re tired. You’ve been staring at that one crooked board, second guessing your entire skillset.
You’ve made 3 trips to the hardware store, you’re covered in sawdust or grout or paint, and your family is wondering what “just a quick project” really means.
But here’s the thing most people don’t see:

You’re learning.

You’re improving.

You’re building something not just with your hands, but with your mind.

That’s why we keep doing it. Not for perfection but for progress.

If you’re in the middle of a messy, frustrating, rewarding, totally worth it project right now keep going.

We’ve all been there.

@danomies

This was my brother and me this past weekend. He helped me put up a new wood fence and we ran into so much concrete in the ground. We even found old posts still underground from the farm that was there before. And we had to make multiple trips to the store. We were exhausted but he kept us going and we finished! As a single woman on a budget, your channel is a lifesaver. Thank you!!

This is the most encouraging thing I've read in a long time. My wife and I just moved into a house we've been building ourselves over the last 3 years. I can't number the amount of times I asked myself, "What have I gotten us into?" and felt completely out of my depth. Channels like yours helped us get through every one of the challenges and encouraged us to keep going. Thanks for everything you do for the DIY community!

You just described my window cleaning and painting business, now in it's 3rd season, complicated by the loss of the use of my right hand last year. Adapt. Overcome. Persevere.

I am right in the middle of my first house build and this hit home. Over budget and got a machine rented and want it to be working everyday to get my money out of it which mean that I am working everyday. It'll be nice to see it when finished though.

Thank you for the time spent making your videos. They have helped me with my own projects, including two bathroom renovations. The multiple trips to the store were frustrating no matter how organized I thought I was.

Heck yes brother, I was covered in thin-set today walking through Walmart after sticking some more tiles in my new shower. Watching your tiling videos are great, thanks for the help!

This was a great post that a lot of DIYers, like myself, need to see. I'm building a garage and I've messed stuff up in so many places, but I've learned so much and it is into that I'll carry with me forever.

Man, really needed to hear this. Making a big media wall and needed to rip out a bunch of the drywall corners I did because I had to redo them (literally wearing my drywall clothes as I write this). You’re good dude and thanks for all your knowledge. I’ve yet to do a home project without checking at least one of your videos.

Thank you for your videos and your encouragement. I’ve definitely been there with the multiple trips to store, being dirty/dusty and being up late. It definitely boosts me to want to build my home as an owner builder and do a lot of DIY projects to save money. Thanks again brother!

I’ve been building my house through the winter in Michigan while running my construction business. I’ll probably forget about the late nights eventually I tell myself

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Anyone who doesn’t do DIY will never understand

sometimes the greatest lesson is when you get it wrong…at that point you learn what NOT to do, which at times, is can be more valuable than knowing what to do…the learning curve for me is the best part even though it can be frustrating, lol…just ask yourself why are you doing this, enjoy the process, and press on…much respect to you all

Very well said. You don’t realize this thought until project 2 or 3. Just keep going!

Yep. Working on a bathroom reno. Told my wife it'd take probably two weeks. We're in month three and still working away. It'll get done and done well. Slow, but sure. 👌
