I think that’s just their eventual goal. Slowly building to this model over the course of the next 5+ years. The authority is on the back burner because they haven’t gotten the story quite right. I think that’s pretty telling that they are prioritizing quality over quantity.

Seems a bit early to question the quality of a project that isn't out yet. So far we've only seen creature commandos which I thoroughly enjoyed but I'm sure superman will paint a better picture of the future story. I've been a big fan of most of James Gunns films and shows, so I think it's only fair to judge each project on it's own merits, especially when the full picture isn't available

Have they not learned the mistakes marvel made? Over saturation and too many projects that were submarines what got the MCU into the ground. Superhero movies are already fatigued so DC injecting more of the same Old same old isn’t gonna help them

One thing I’ve wanted is another DCTV multiverse crossover! They could make it an Elseworlds miniseries and release it during a long gap between DCU releases and include many actors from many DCTV shows like how Deadpool & Wolverine was the only MCU movie releasing last year and brought together many actors from multiple franchises! David Mazouz as Batman, Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman and characters from several shows that were unfairly cancelled: Legends of Tomorrow, Stargirl, Powerless and I didn’t watch it but also Swamp Thing. And I heard the actress playing Naomi wanted to meet Superman despite being in a universe separate from the ACTUAL Superman. Finally, as a bonus, I’d retcon most of them into taking place in the same universe like Crisis On Infinite Earths! Except for some shows that would contradict the timeline like Smallville and Gotham. The whole point of them saying separate in their own universe was to stand out on their own, not relying on another show’s popularity and messing up the timeline of other shows. But they’re all over now and some characters in some universes don’t exist; they might as well break reality and make them cohabitate in the same world! Their respective networks don’t give a shit about them. But the writers do! Seeing Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman, the Earth Prime Justice League, the Earth 2 JSA, the Titans, the Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing and Powerless retconned in the same world would be perfect for me! And it has to be made by competent people who respect each of these shows. With better writing, direction, VFX, etc. They can return once in a while like how The DC Animated Universe returned with a new movie or comic series once in a while!

4 projects deep sounds pretty started to me? Blue Beetle, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos….

I want to trust James Gunn. Everything he’s done with the superhero genre has been great so far. Maybe it is too much too quickly, but some of this stuff was probably already in production. They just moved it over to this universe.

I just want a low budget tv movie about the Legends of tomorrow getting out of time prison, with the help of Leonard Snart ala "prison break" and maybe a Grant Gustin Flash and Melissa Benoist Supergirl cameos. The rest I don't care.

Anyone else think that Mark Hoppus and James Gunn look similar, despite the hair color?

Not everything is DCU, though. I think that's what's making it seem like a lot. These prospects include things like My Adventures with Superman, Harley Quinn, etc

Creature Commandos was great and Superman looks to be amazing, the universe is starting off promising and I have full confidence in anything Gunn directly makes, but less confidence in the other stuff. For instance, I don’t believe for a second the video games will ever meaningfully connect with to the movies nor do I want them to.

Not all of these shows have to be interconnected. Some are else world stories, some are fun little side stories like Creature Commandos. As long as the content stays diverse and interesting Im all for this rollout plan

It feels like “if I have to do homework to enjoy and understand your movie I’ll never watch it” just like a certain other studio we could name

I have to disagree. They’re only approving scripts that they believe are perfect and will not start filming without a complete script. A lot of issues with quantity for these types of movies is trying to film the movie while writing the script. If this was truly quantity over quality, there wouldn’t be such a strong focus on the script writing process.

Anyone else see the James Gunn DCU updates? Seems like they are trying to scale things back, while also putting more projects into production. 2 Live Action Features, 1 Animated Feature, 2 Live Action Shows, and 1 Animated Show a year seems like A LOT for a new universe that hasn't even really tarted yet. It doesn't really feel like "prioritizing quality over quantity".
