As I'm sure many have seen by now, the new Walking With Dinosaurs trailer is out!

My impression: looks fine, but there is no novelty here whatsoever. I really like the shot below.

#BringBackBenBartlett (trailer music was shite)

For those complaining about the animals/locations used. Yes it’s what we’ve seen before, but there’s a much bigger focus on dig sites and palaeontology, with sequence looking into how bones are excavated. Because of that, the BBC were limited to formations where the scientists were willing to be filmed, where ongoing excavations are happening, and where the scientists had a rough idea of what it was they were digging up. Also most of these sites are brand new to the public. This show wasn’t made just for dinosaur nerds. TLDR Making big budget TV is really hard and I’m sure the creators would’ve chosen to show more variety if they could have.

I mourn the fact there's not gonna be a sea-based episode.

"looks fine, but there's no novelty" sounds about right for a show with 3 episodes set in late Cretaceous North America.

Certainly hyped for it! My only complaint is that I wish they would revisit the Triassic, since it appears there will not be any parts from the Triassic featured.

Definitely falls in the "good but falls short of Prehistoric Planet" category

I don't think the trailer music is gonna be representative of the show's soundtrack. It's probably some generec trailer music. At least I hope so.

They definitely set themselves up for big expectations by giving this the same title as a beloved classic. It doesn’t look bad but it’s certainly appears to be lacking by comparison. The original was an expensive but carefully crafted project that has this charming authenticity to it despite its increasing age. I understand that this show is being produced on a shorter schedule in a much different era of TV productions, however, and remain hopeful that it will be a good watch. The fact that they apparently did not get Branaugh or Barlett back, however, was a huge mistake. Those two were a major part of the original Trilogy of Life and having a “new season” as their copy describes it without these two involved makes the project appear less passionate than it should be. I hope all of our fears are put to rest when it airs in June.

I hope they used practical effects like the original, I'm getting concerned about how much CGI is being used. 😬

My only real gripe is that we have two episodes/formations set in late Cretaceous North America (Alberto/Pachy vs Rex/Triceratops). But I'm up to give the new narrator a chance, as Kenneth Branagh was also an actor before narrating the series, and the revival could benefit from having its own style. I don't believe the trailer will be representative of the entire soundtrack, but we can only wait and see.

I try not to be one to down something without having seen it, and I am excited to see this. However, the cinematography does not feel...real. The original WWD felt real in terms of how the animals were filmed. It was like a film crew had really gone back in time and filmed these animals. Now most dinosaur docs tend to have the dinosaurs acting, rather than behaving if that makes sense.

Spinosaurus at least looks awesome in this one.

Yay Spino!

Everything looks fantastic, and it shouldn't be judged solely by how it compares to other stuff.

@BugsandBiology

Spinosaurus was the trailer’s only standout for me. I also feel a lot of the animals’ colour schemes are quite basic, and lack the intricacy of those in both PhP and the original trilogy.

No novelty.. for us sure. But. for my 3 yrs old son, a huge event, he watched the trailer with wide eyed amazement . And I must say that I was very interested by the fine graphics...

I just saw a slightly different trailer for PBS, and it looks a bit more ambitious than. The BBC one. I even noticed a possible interspecies friendship between a juvenile Triceratops and Edmontosaurus, perhaps like with modern species.
