April is Frog Month! 🐸 This month, we are going to feature a species of frog every week! Today, we’ll feature the unique Turtle Frog!

Turtle frogs are a species of frog commonly found in Western Australia in woodlands and scrub with sandy soils. The name “turtle frog” derives from their distinctive appearance that looks like a turtle without its shell! 🐢

These frogs spend most of their days living underground, burrowing headfirst into the soil with their muscular front legs. After breeding, turtle frog eggs are laid at least 3 feet deep underground, where development occurs entirely within the eggs, without a free-living tadpole stage! 😱

Their diet 🍽️ consists largely of termites, with some records showing the turtle frog eating up to 500 termites in one sitting!!

Thanks for learning with us! Stay tuned for next week to see another featured frog!
