Honestly if I were to answer what killed SMG4, it wasn't the redesigns. Besides they aren't all that bad, the other characters are good but SMG4's character design is pretty bad & generic. My answer to what killed SMG4 was the episode SMG4 Origins, where that episode ruined SMG4's character from the relatable straight man to a view hungry loser, while ruining all the Mario characters lives.
