This was a concept highly encouraged back in the 70's and 80's by child experts and has been abandoned. Now they like to promote little narcissists that run the whole household but never grow up.

Although I'm female, if I'm going out a door and someone is comin in... if I've opened the door already, I hold it for male or female, young or old. It just seems the kind thing to do if the are reasonably close.
