Beyond the U.S. (surprisingly :D), in Germany for example the G in GIF is pronounced hard. I bet there is a linguistic map out there where it's shown how alphabet is pronounced by countries/region.

I’ve never understood this debate. How do you pronounce the word “gift”? Ok now say “gif”t. Why would linguistic magic suddenly happen to the front of the word if we take off the “t” at the end?

Isn't it like Graphical Image Format or something? I don't see the point of changing that G to a J sound then.
