At present, I am spending my entire time with my beautiful boy, Polisi. Sadly, it is his time to transition from this life and body to the next. This is such an unusual one. His light, his relentless love, and his non-stop guardianship of presence in my home and family is going to leave a void we're already feeling.
Nearly 11 years ago, the Maasai warriors who were working as security, protecting the children, hadn't quite grasped rescue vs. confiscation. Ultimately, seeing he and his two siblings were not being cared for well, they walked onto someone's property and took them by force. I'll never forget that, and I'm fairly certain the people they took them from haven't either. 🙂
10 years, he has watched the village and family grow around us. He has picked fights with red spitting cobras that I had to finish with a mop, as Fritzi stood looking through our window, horrified at what my beautiful boy had gotten me into 🙃
I can't really imagine my world without him. We've shared it all together... iv buried my head in his cuddles as we loved, lost, and grieved. Be that child or dog.
He is and has been one of the greatest, most loving, and protective friends, beings, and souls to ever bless my life.
Even now, as he prepares himself for the end, his affectionate and gentle heart still glows. This photo shows it when alone he cries. When we return, he stops and even lifts his head for what I'm certain he knows are his last cuddles on earth.
I will miss him so dearly... I welcome any prayers that he can pass as peacefully, naturally, and pain-free, as is possible in this life.
Iv been privileged to safely deliver more children and dogs back into the arms of our creator than I can even count sat here.
Death is not the end, nor does it happen to life, but in life. However, despite that experience, goodbye hasn't gotten any easier, I can say.
I will miss you old boy.
This reminds me so heavily how beautiful a world it would be if we'd all just unite around shared experiences. Such as grief and death. No more arguments over religion and politics, etc. just unity around the human need for comfort and love in a very beautiful yet complex world.
