I have been building "things" since I was old enough to swing a hammer and twist a wrench. Completely remodeled and refurbed three of our houses. Own Mig Welder, Plasma Cutter, Tig Welder, Mag Drill, Table Saw, 10" MIter Saw, Jig Saws, Routers, full sets of wrenches, socket sets (metric and SAE) Taps and Dies, etc., etc. Beat up every garage I owned like it owed me money but always put it back like it was. It's all I could afford and I wanted to teach our two sons what my uncle and dad had taught me as I was growing up - and did. After locating one and disassembling it, we re-erected a 30x30 metal building which we turned into a nice workshop. We then watched Hurricane Milton flatten it with two of the largest Florida Oaks I've ever seen. Sadly, we are back to square one. UGH! Did I mention we own a small 1.5 ton Takeuchi excavator we bought for $2k? We had to winch it onto the flatbed trailer we own but with time and sweat equity we managed to turn it into a nice working machine. Also picked up a John Deere front end loader and did the same. Needed a dump trailer so we watched FBM for one and got it. I say all the above to say this - nothing is impossible to achieve. It may not be in the condition you envisioned it to be but if you have kids who are just as interested in making things as you are, it can be a wonderful experience. Did everything always work out right? Nope. In fact, most of the things we built we took apart more than we assembled. I do have a question though - maybe several of them. Is your AC air handler in your garage? If so, and you weld in your garage - you may be damaging it and not even knowing it - like we did ours. When you weld, the room air is converted into some weird gas and it eats metal up...like the components of the air handler. We found that out $5k later. I just found your channel and would love to follow it. Our current project is searching for "pieces" (the whole thing) for our metal shop that was destroyed and I can tell you it is not easy nor is it going to be cheap. I'm now retired (from fire/EMS) and being on a fixed income makes it that much harder. I appreciate anyone who has the patience to make great content for others to learn from. YouTube is certainly the least expensive way to learn. Sorry I was so long winded. Take Care. Mark

I think your tier list order is wrong. I’ve been a mechanic for almost 20 years and my answer is, “I’ll fix something if I have to.”🤣

My husband and I made a bench in my office closet for a cozy place to read. I’m quite proud of it 😅

I've made many things from wood, but never quite felt like a fully fledged woodworking hobbyist. Couldn't seem to categorize myself. Took me a while to realize I'm not a "go out to the shop because I have some free time" guy, but rather I build things when I want to own something very specific that I can't just go buy. Hmm, I want to own a very heavy wooden chest with these proportions and in this color. I want an entertainment center that hides all of the cables, has built in speakers, and doesn't touch the floor. I want a cube with snakes carved into it to exist just because I want to hold it. Boom, you'll find me in the shop. All of my needs are fulfilled? Haven't touched my tools in a year.

I haven’t built anything physically in ages, but as a kid I loved pinewood derby tournaments and building my own slingshots out of popsicle sticks, hot glue, and rubber bands
