First Solar announced plans to build a new $330 million manufacturing facility in Gaffney, South Carolina, where it will onshore final production processes for its Series 6 Plus modules.

Commercial operations are slated for H2 2026.

The plant will add 3.7 GW of capacity, bringing First Solar’s total annual nameplate capacity to 17.7 GW in 2027.

The new facility expands the company’s presence in South Carolina, complementing its Spartanburg County distribution center and its partnership with Inland Port Greer.

First Solar said the onshored processes will allow thin-film cells produced internationally to be transformed into fully completed modules in the U.S.

The Gaffney facility will join three vertically integrated plants in Ohio, and one each in Alabama and Louisiana, plus R&D centers in Ohio and California.

Since 2019, First Solar said it will have invested ~$4.5 billion in U.S. manufacturing and R&D infrastructure.
