A question from a fellow indie game dev. It's a bit technical so hopefully I explain this well enough. First of all, your editor is extremely impressive. from what I've seen so far I believe it was mentioned you do not actually render 3D meshes for the 3D rotation of these sprite parts, but you do still utilize a generated depth map, so I would presume this is accomplished using some pretty intricate and clever fragment shaders. Either way, if you're using depth data to generate 3D or faux-3D projections, my question is this. is this depth map data being converted to normal map data, can these normals be seen in the editor, and if so, is it or will it ever be possible to see these rendered sprites with properly calculated normals? In other words, instead of the base textures (the pixel art) can these "meshes" be rendered with their normal map data, properly rendered to account for each mesh's x/y/z rotation? My hopes aren't high that this functionality would be in the editor, but looking at the tech you have, I know it could be. And hey, I know it's not common to use normal mapping with pixel art, but all the data is already there, you could absolutley impliment it and use it to create the illusion of 3D lighting. I'm developing a 2d pixel art game at the moment that heavily uses normal mapping and a pretty complex graphics pipeline with a pretty advanced custom lighting engine (which, is why i'm asking haha) You have an extremely clever product, here. Although it's usefulness is pretty niche, and even pretty niche among game devs, for me personally this looks like a miracle product.
