Since his first appearance Metal Sonic was beyond him and if we go into modern time then yeah it isn't fair at all, if we take fanon version (Metallix/Mecha) then he is even weaker than his canon version, fanon Metallix/Mecha only has speed over him but not AP or Dura, canon Classic Sonic can destroy Egg Robot that is connected to Egg Death Star (can destroy planet), Knuckles can go toe to toe with him and Mecha Sonic is bit weaker than him bc he needs to resort to temporary boost of Master Emerald, so canon Mecha Sonic is relativistic speed small planet level, fanon Metallix/Mecha Sonic mftl+ city block level, Classic Metal Sonic ftl planet level
