I used to practice on an acrylic kit at a shared practice space, and I've used one live a couple of times and I certainly don't mind them. They feel a bit different to play than a traditional kit, but not in a bad way. They certainly sound fine and look dope, and there are certain advantages to acrylic shells over wooden ones, but I'd hate owning one because I'd be so afraid of cracks.

I have a clear set of Ludwig vistalite s from the 70’s. 22, 13, 16. They look cool. Sound amazing. I like coated emperors as the batter sides. The tuning ranges are vast. Loud kits too. Love em’ personally as I mostly play rock music. Not for everyone.

They’re a little squirrely to tune, but fun to play! I had the Ludwig Bonham kit for a while and it was a ton of fun to play! However, in that scenario, I couldn’t really play it for a lot of gigs due to its size and scratchability.

I had two Ludwig vistalite sets, a double bass blue set and a set in tequila sunrise with the lights inside. I sold them both in the 90's and I have missed them since. A couple of years ago I purchased a used Pearl crystal beat set, so I once again have acrylic drums!

I’ve got a Natal Arcadia Acrylic in clear. They are so much more heavy (as in weight) than my wooden kits. They are loud as hell, bright with loads of attack. Perfect for rock/metal where you want loads of attack, volume and short sustain.

Bought an acrylic kit in 2015, played a few shows with it, and then sat with it for months before selling it to my friend. I regretted it instantly. Years later I bought another one and I love it just as much. Acrylic drums are just so much fun to play.

I'm not even a drummer, but my brother is and he can make an average band sound great, I love that about drummers, you can make or break a song

I wanted one until I read about them getting hazy and cracking around the screw holes

Got a set for the basement for moisture resistance. Back when they had some red ones for a good price. I remember when they had a mad deal on Tama and Pearl but some off brands had "ugly" red or clear on sale. Tama had the clear. I wanted the clear space drums but the pre-order times and lack of info and the fact that you had to pre order each size left a lot of doubt. Oh yeah and they weren't cheap and the only way to mount them was by the hoop. They looked like a lost in space bubble helmet turned upside down.

I don’t have an acrylic drum set but I do own a DW Design Series 14x5.5 acrylic snare drum and I’m in love with it.

I absolutely love BOTH of my acrylic kits - I have a 90s Vistalite custom in blue and a mkre modern Crystal Beat series as well. I love how resistant to environmental factors they are, and they sound absolutely massive in a live setting. They are also pretty durable! One of the main cons is repairing the acrylic/filling in scratches and such is a lot harder.

Pearl Crystal Beat Rock Clear w/ matching Free Float snare. Really punchy 🤘 Took a while to get used to tuning them and still learning. Cotton balls inside the toms picked up from Garstka videos really help especially on the floor toms. ✌

For me the best sounding Acrylic kits are the original Ludwig ones and the Pearl crystal beats.
