When you think about how many casual gamers or people that only play 1 game religiously there are, this starts to make sense

When the cost of 2 AAA titles equals 10 indie titles, I can imagine this is the case. Different strokes for different folks though.

Some people I know only play FIFA and COD. Maybe an Assassins Creed game if they feel like it. I think there is a big group that just play 1 or 2 games with friends and can’t care less for a deeper experience or to watch any game news to begin with

I haven’t purchased a single game this year. Granted there’s a couple I’m very likely to get in the coming month or two, but that’ll still only put me at two games.

Based on my family; it is true. We are four sibling in my family (I'm the oldest, with two younger brothers, and one younger sister). All of us play video games. But I'm the only one that buys video games. The brothers bought FIFA and NBA and play only that and only at weekends. My sister plays a lot, but only Fortnight. I'm the only one who plays things such as JRPGs, and story driven games- things you play once and get the next game. I'm very different from them, as I don't enjoy competitve games, or online.

There's a lot of people who only play online games that either are free to get into or last for years

What defines a "gamer?" Is it only nee purchases? What about mobile games? The terms are not clear enough for me to assess the validity.

I think that checks out. When it comes to the average person's disposable income and time it's getting less and less every day

The most successful games are big title shooters and sports games. Many gamers buy the newest release for their favorite and that's it for the year.

Casual AAA gamers, free to play gamers and individuals who don’t have the budget I’d say definitely push the statistic that way. I know plenty of people who just play GTA or COD and also I used to be someone who would maybe find the room in my budget for one game a year if I was lucky. So yes I believe it to be true.

The reason that I don't believe it is because they definitely didn't ask every gamer in the USA so they probably had to take the average from the group they questioned and then made a conclusion based on that group. There are definitely people that buy 2 games or less per year but also that buy 10 or more. I'll need more information about the way the survey was conducted to make a defitinive judgement on it's accuracy and trustworthiness.

This is very accurate, and I usually wait for a sale just so that I am not spending more money than I have to.

i believe it is a question of semantics, in my eyes, if you only play a couple different games or just play one specific game a year, than your not rly a gamer….its kinda like saying im an alcoholic but i only partake a couple times a year or calling yourself a film buff becuase you’ve seen every episode of star trek released in the past 40yr

People with a lot of time often don't have a lot of money, and vice versa. It could very well be true.

New, or used? I've purchased several used games this year alone. I bought Crossworlds new for both Switch and Xbox, as well as Capcom Fighting Collection 2.

Most gamers are probably younger and don’t hoard very large steam collections like the stereotype. Plus, there’s been a lot of evergreen games popular lately: Minecraft, battlefield, cod, pubg, Fortnite, etc. You can play games like these for essentially infinity time without getting bored. Free to play/cheap to buy with accompanying mtx model is probably also a big part of it. Sports games, cod, and Fortnite are all super popular, but you don’t really buy the game, you buy the skins.

I Dream of Indie Games
A recent survey found that 60 percent of gamers in the United States purchase 2 games or less per year. Do you believe this statistic?
