3 - 1 (3 - 1) 3 = ? First (3 - 1) = 2. Then 1 x 2 = 2. Then 2 x 3 = 6. Then 3 - 6 = -3. I regard both the left-side and right-side as coefficients only, and not to be included in the right-to-left.
