My Grandfather, Edward Leroy Mitchell, fought and took shrapnel in his body at this battle. I picked slivers as long as an inch out of his back when I was a kid. At 72, he died of an aneurism after 36 surgeries over 50 years. He was a quiet unassuming man who was talented and caring. He was a true American Hero.
