Happy holidays Jim! Been enjoying the videos a lot and sharing with friends, something I've never really found myself compelled to do with video essays before. Hope you're well.

AoE2 was a game I was practically raised on, fingers crossed for a shoutout for my man Furious The Monkey Boy. And thanks again for the shoutout during the AI vid, its effects were deeply and keenly felt and I really can’t tell you how much that meant.

Happy holidays! I'd honestly, personally, love a guided tour of HL1.. I never got around to playing it myself and your guides tours are so entertaining and in-depth :) Go have a good time & don't stress too hard about deadlines, ok?

Happy Holidays! Your videos have, and continue to be, a joy! I've never seen someone come at an MGS review from the aspect of its controls, I've only ever played them on console, but seeing you mentioned them, I'm suddenly reminded of how interestingly in depth the controls were for a PS2 game.

Everything in this post sounds great tbh. This channel has easily become one of my favorites on the platform, especially the weird vibe-y montages (52ish minute mark in the AI video or the intro to Pay To Win 1 being examples).

Ive been following you since the first rain world video bcs i wanted to find some content about the game after finishing it but you've quickly become one of my favourite content creators on the platform and i really think you deserve more success. My favourite parts about your content is the way you present things and how you explain them but also those times when you let the gameplay speak for itself. Keep up the good work once i get a steady income (1-2 years lol) im def pledging myself to your Kofi

Happy holidays Jim! It’s always a joy to watch your videos. Doing videos about more popular games would be interesting, I fully believe your perspectives would be fresh and your script would be immaculate as always. Whatever the case I think you should just keep making the videos you want to make, I don’t think it’s controversial to say that most subscribers are there for you and your perspectives.

Happy holidays Jim. I'm stoked that you were able to put this out. I'm probably gonna have this on while we eat Christmas dinner (I live in an apartment of gamers and our lives are hellish).

Merry Christmas, it's a treat to have a video from you to enjoy while everything's closed and slowed down.

Happy holidays! I just wanna say really quick that I'm super interested in your videos and topics. To be honest just watching your videos gives me inspiration to try to make some stuff of my own, which I'm super excited about trying

Thanks for the great videos Jimmy! I always get pumped when I see a new one has dropped. A review/guided tour of MSG, Half-Life or any other popular game (Bloodborne? Metroid maybe? These are just two of my favorite games lol) would be wonderful. Your perspective on this medium is always interesting. Hope you and your loved ones are well this holiday season!

Happy Holidays! I'd love a Half Life 1 video, just played through it for the first time on steam deck when they released the 25th anniversary stuff and it honestly blows my mind how well the game has aged.

The AI video introduced me to your channel and earned an immediate subscription. It's also horrendously depressing.

Very excited for Pay to Win 3, that’s my favorite of your series by far. You went into the early history of console gaming in the last one and I’m really curious if you ever plan to delve into the parallel side of gaming also developing at that time- MUDs, text based games, Rogue and its ilk. While I appreciate that “mainstream” gaming descends mostly from Nintendo’s revitalization of the idea of gaming, I personally have always felt closer to the niche nerdy tradition of PC gaming that comes from that side of things- and lots of potentially interesting talking points, like their relationship to pen and paper, the way MUDs were some of the earliest online multiplayer games and such and how that relates to the isolation you say gaming has brought on the world. I don’t know, I’m recovering from an illness and it’s hard to tell if this is an avenue you’d find interesting- I had a whole more thorough writeup made I planned to post under PTW2, but I decided to just write this off to cuff to describe an important part of early gaming history that I think might be interesting to cover. Maybe I should just start writing my own script delving into MUDs with how much their reaching influence has captured my mind recently, I guess I just never see them acknowledged and would be interested to see what you’d say if you looked into them. Happy holidays, rewatching your videos helped keep me company during a really shitty Christmas, appreciate your work.

The AI vid was a breath of fresh air because it felt oppressive how little people were allowed to discuss whether it was a good thing or not. Appreciate that someone decided to start a dialogue because journalism is failing us badly on this topic. They're basically stenographers for big tech companies it's horrifying to watch as a journalism graduate.

Jimmy McGee
I actually made a video in time for Christmas! It's about Age of Empires 2, which I played way too much this year.
Thank you so much for the support on the AI video. I was not expecting it to break through the way it did, and I appreciated all the kind emails (although I'm bad at replying in a timely manner, sorry). With that said, I'm going to stay true to the videos I like making, so the game reviews are not going away. I have a follow-up to the AI video mostly written but my interest in it is waning, if I finish it most of the runtime will be discussing the nature of art and creativity. Thanks to J. for the philosophy help. Now the ramble:
Writing about a strategy game was a new experience for me, it took two or three full rewrites to come up with a good script, and I feel like the final thing lands somewhere between tutorial and review. If it is not analytical enough for your taste I hope I at least managed "comfy". There always has to be a balance between introducing things and analyzing them, and AoE2 is both broad and deep so I ended up in the weeds on some subjects. Aaaanyway I hope you enjoy the video.
Due to the holiday I probably won't be in the comments for the next few days, and the subtitles will be delayed as well. This one came down to the wire, partly due to laziness. I can only make good videos if I put love into them, and it's in short supply sometimes. I am now yulepilled and santamaxxing so I was able to finish the project in the saint nick of time.
If you're reading this you probably like my stuff, so please let me know if you are interested in coverage of popular games. I was considering Half-Life 1, and I played through the MGS series recently. If I don't have anything original to share about a topic, I usually won't make a video, but I fell in love with the controls in MGS2 and 3 so I'm thinking about it. If you've never partaken, Legally Acquire the new PC port of MGS3, it's a perfect holiday game.
Oh, and I am working on Pay to Win 3 while I do other things. So far I love the script. I've posted a couple demo sequences on my other channel, it's unlikely any of those will make it into the video but I like getting ideas out when I feel the urge.
Happy holidays!
