Along the way, we're staying in the top kid-approved short term rental in each state, and in Oregon our kids picked The Spare Room at Home on the Lanes - a vintage bowling alley turned one-of-a-kind short term rental.
Owners Jessica and Tim, who both grew up here, have poured their vision and hard work into transforming this 1960s alley into a cozy stay while preserving its history. We bowled game after game, explored the town, and even got a peek behind the scenes at the original equipment.
We also made an impromptu stop at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, where hands-on exhibits tied together weeks of learning, and wrapped up our time in Hood River with food trucks, a playground on the river, and kite surfers flying across the Columbia Gorge.
