Have you ever had holiday travel plans completely ruined by weather?

Munich... first week of December, 2023. They had a snow storm that shut down the region for several days. No trams or trains, only U-bahn. Couldn't do our day trips to Salzburg or Regensburg. Lots of flights cancelled as well.... thankfully ours was one of only 3 to the US that made it out of Munich on flight day.

Tropical Storm Arlene. Rivers of rain water flowing down the hallways of the hotel! We barely got out.

Summer holidays in Wales, in a tent, 4 of us, listening to the rain hitting the canvas as we played canasta by a calor gas lamp. Some of the best holiday memories.

All depends on one’s perspective. Yeah…when I went to Niagara Falls…it was so foggy. But it was still awesome to see the fog and night lights, hear the thundering of the falls. You have to make the most of each situation…

I visited my cousin in Florida a few years ago and everything changed because of a hurricane. No Key West, we had to turn back when the hotel rang to say that they were closing. My final 3 three nights in Miami were also cancelled and I couldn't fly back to Dublin from there. But I was able to get a flight from Tampa to New York and spend 24 hours there, which I hadn't planned on doing at all.

Girl Scout camp weekend. Got rained out at 3:00 am. Had to call parents to pick up their kids. Lots of fun.

I was going to say no, that you can just work around the weather, when I remembered several camping trips as a child. Literally got washed away. Probably why I don't go camping much 😏

Only once really. On a walking holiday in supposed sunny Tuscany, heavy rain fall without a break for seven days.

8/9 years ago, my dream trip to Minn. was about to happen. I could have made it there, but, I would have been stuck in my hotel as they had a very late season snow fall of about 15 inches. I would have missed my flight home as well. So, I never got to go.

My family of 4 once took a week to drive 10hours to Buffalo NY because of snow, only to turn around 72 hours later to drive 27 hours to Galveston TX for a cruise because all the airports were closed for snow. That was an adventure

As a snowplow guy, I've missed a lot of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years parties. 🤷‍♂

I've only vacationed to do a specific thing a very few times, and that's always worked out. Most of the time, our idea of a vacation includes a really nice hotel room, a hot tub, great food, and too much to drink, and it's pretty hard for the weather to ruin that. My wife does appreciate a beach cabana to lounge at and suntan, and we've had a trip where the weather was less than ideal for that, but we found other things to do and it came nowhere near ruining her vacation(and hardly affected mine at all).

I travelled from Australia to New Zealand for a friend's wedding in 2018. It snowed quite heavily in Queenstown which was unusual for that time of year, and it's where we were doing the pre-wedding activities. Jet boating and a gondola ride to the restaurant at the top of a mountain for lunch, both cancelled due to the snow. We quickly went to a clothing store in town to get winter gear since our jeans and hoodie weren't enough. Ended up getting massages instead, doing indoor wine tasting, snowball fights and going to a crappy steak restaurant. We also didn't have snow chains on the tyres and being from Australia, none of us had ever driven in snow 😂 it was an interesting experience! And it was my birthday, but at least I got to see snow for it

We were on an island in Florida one year when a hurricane started heading toward us, the island was evacuated. We ended up driving to the opposite coast of Florida and while it was still a bit windy there because of the hurricane, we had a nice couple of days and a lot of fun. The island we were originally on sustained minimal damage and we were able to return there for the remainder of our vacation.
