The D Mode, a transformation I've mentioned in the first Fanfic video iirc, is like the name says a transformation that only members of the D Clan can use.
Besides giving you a significant power boost it also links you power to the power of your ancestors. You gain access to a small fraction of their powers.
For example Luffy gained abilities to use Mana Blasts, something he was unable to do without it. This is because his father Monkey D Dragon was quite good in using Mana himself.
Bonus fact: I created this form before Gear 5 was revealed and I needed a new power up for Luffy to gain when fighting Blackbeard in the War of the 4 Kings. Gear 5 is still an existing form in my story and will show up much later down the line
