Three skeletons in the woods on the north side of Orange Plank Road near Chancellorsville, Virginia.

@CalvinNeighbors

Thank you, Clifton. I may have mentioned that my Great Great Great Uncle David Kramer, 18th Virginia Calvary Regiment, CSA, died at Chancellorsville. My Great Great Grand Dad Phillip Kramer was beside him when the bullet struck. He said " it sounded like slapping a ham of meat". Source: Kramer Family History...

Oh that's a fantastic photo! I like the photo of Union troops that were hastily buried after the assault on Cold Harbor being disinterred for reburial in 1866. I read there was an ice house near the site of a skirmish that took place after Lee abandoned Petersburg in 1865, and it was thawed out in 1866 to remove frozen corpses stored there. And of course there is the story of the skeleton of a Confederate sharpshooter found in a tree by a farmer near Gettysburg in 1868! I remember a skeleton being unearthed near Vicksburg trenches in the 1980s. It was reburied at Beauvoir.

It’s kinda scary how different that area looks now. What was once country is now nothing but houses and shopping malls. Orange Plank Road is only about 5 minutes up the road from my grandparents. Heck of a picture!

There are many more photos like this of the area. When Grant’s Overland Campaign started at the Wilderness, there were, a year later, bones and all the litter of war still scattered for hundreds of acres of the former Chancellorsville battlefield. The Wilderness battle’s carnage added to it and again, the fighting started another forest fire making it doubly hellish. Bones were found for decades and one begins to grasp the large numbers of combatants listed on both sides as “Missing” at roll call.

Considering the location, I am going to hazard a guess and say they're from the civil war. Either way, may their souls rest in peace.

I’m sure those woods still echo the memories of those lost in battle.

I found one of those once. A local guy that was missing a few years that apparently got sick of physically hurting and sat down under a tree and ate the entire bottle. It was just his skeleton and his clothes just leaned up against a tree.

the last standing orders from God (The Holy Spirit) were to love our enemies, to turn the other cheek, to lend expecting nothing in return, to bless them that curse us, to do good to them that hate us, to take the wrong and ultimately to do violence to NO ONE....isaac loved Esau, Jesus hated him; who do you think has The Final Word? just because you love someone doesn't mean God loves them too, it's His election, not yours or your kids or your parents or your friends or anyone you go to church with. in John 12:32 The Holy Spirit says that He would DRAW ALL MEN unto Him. many are called, few are chosen & God does the choosing. NONE OF YOU have quit sinning, so to act like you are without sin (worthy to throw the first stone [worthy to kill/decide death]) is hypocrisy, you become the hypocrites Jesus spoke about. King Saul said God said to kill all the bad guys. King Jesus said God said to love our enemies, to turn the other cheek, to lend expecting nothing in return, to bless them that curse us, to do good to them that hate us, to take the wrong and to do violence TO NO ONE....... who do YOU say Jesus is? God and King? just God? King Jesus wasn't lying when He said that He has NO PLEASURE in the death of the wicked. King Jesus wasn't lying when He said that He does not want that ANY SINNER should die but that ALL should come to repentance.....if you kill an "unrepentant sinner" then you actually believe that The Holy Spirit was lying when He said He was the propitiation for our sins and not our sins only, but the sins of the whole world. not much hope in the comment section.
