The Nick of Time

WIP pictures for my attempt at redesigning Baby from Five Nights at Freddy's to have a more detailed interior skeleton.

The model which gets used in the games unfortunately does not incorporate several of the features Baby is supposedly capable of, like a helium tank connected to her fingers to inflate balloons, the internal ice cream dispenser, or the giant claw that comes out of her stomach to snatch unsuspecting victims into the shadow realm.

It's a little difficult to see everything that's going on, but the main elements of this model are: The claw (scissor-lift mechanism), the main skeleton (Fairly standard metal frame with all the appropriate joints to give her articulation) and the 'Ennard Wires' (snakelike tubes wrapped around the skeleton, rigged to be independently moveable to compensate for clipping issues). This is a very loose adaptation of the original canon version, which only consists of those tubes filling up the whole shape of the body, since it only needed to look complex enough for the glimpses you see through the gaps in the outer shell.

The outer shell elements are just placeholders taken from the official Baby model in 'Help Wanted', and will be replaced.

I find this sort of thing super interesting. I’d love to see your take on a springlock endo some day, haha

Don't forget the entire thing needs to be able to shrink down to a human-size (par the books). I'm thinking maybe overlapping panels, and an extremely dense end product. The wires that create her frame could be wound onto spools to shrink said frame, and the spools could be around the yellow-tipped needles on her facade, since the books say they are what is responsible. And again, the panels could then break apart and overlap to get an almost-perfect look that can be furthered by lore-accurate illusion discs. I've always wanted to see that visualized, and I know without a doubt that you're the only one capable of pulling it off. :)

Oh wow the detail

@BlueIcicle.

That is a lot of detail! I wonder big the file size is. Is this on Eevee? I can't imagine running this on Cycles.

@ne0arrow

What if you made the scooper out of the claw that Baby has in FNAF 6?

@CassyDaBean

Ik this is an old post, but I’ve been 3D modeling for 11 years of my life, and whenever I see one of your rigs in these sort of “bts” posts I’ve always wanted to ask: How do you rig your models in such a way that it allows for things that normally would require 2 rigs? (namely in this case the hinges/ segments of the claw.) From my time using blender (and working with various game engines) I can’t imagine the annoyance of putting drivers across all those bones, wouldn’t it be simpler to just make a shape key starting from inside the chest to fully extended? (with corrective shape keys to make sure weirdness doesn’t happen mid interpolation)
